Something to bark about

OK, so Zeus is, um, exercising his vocal abilities at this moment. And inspired said title.  But, hey, after a rough ride over the last few months, I’ve got some some EXTRA, EXTRA news. So forgive me if I shout it out.

  • Skool: Yours truly starts an MFA program in creative nonfiction writing, starting next month. Squeezed together the lemons of sexual harassment with the seedy pith of divorce, patriarchy and domestic violence to show the parallels of both, from a personal perspective, for my creative submission.  Some 20 pages. I’ll work on submitting the essay for publication and expanding it into another project soon. Stay tuned. Meanwhile, I’m a grad student, who’s also in need of freelance work. (I’m cheap, but not free.)
  • Better news: Dad’s pain level, which he rated as a 15 on a one to 10 scale yesterday, is a two or three following amputation. His leg’s blood flow, all but stilled from vascular disease, led to gangrene and intense pain. But today, the day after his surgery, he’s already in physical therapy. His mood has brightened. And he’s one happy camper. Yahoo! Here’s to hope. (And he’s got a message for y’all who smoke: QUIT IT. And here’s an Aussie TV commercial to help reinforce that message)
  • Open news: If you’re interested in taking an online creativity course, yours truly is scheduled to teach one starting next week. There’s still room. Sign up with UCR Extension here:
  • And, the waiting and waiting news: The EEOC issued a right-to-sue letter for my claim of sexual harassment against The Record Searchlight. Not much to report other than that. I have 90 days to file in federal court. And, God willing, I will. Meanwhile, I’m exploring options. And have agreed to an interview by a law professor who is crafting a book on the topic of cyber sexual harassment. What I can — still — promise: I will see this through. And, even if that doesn’t play out in the courtroom, I will use my voice to help usher in some much-needed change so that no other woman — especially a  woman reporter — ever has to endure colleague (including the radio variety), orchestrated sexual harassment. On the Internet. Or in the newsroom. In the name of free speech.
  • Green news: Radar green beans in the garden and ready for picking. Yum.
  • Coastal camping this weekend with my favorite pug — and favorite gent and his family, too.

Tis about all, methinks. Posts, as you can imagine, will likely get fewer and further between with my shifting priorities.
